2023 Audi Q8 E-Tron

Audi has been selling an electric SUV, the E-Tron, since 2018. However, for the mid-lifecycle update, the automaker has made many improvements to the vehicle and changed its name. It was initially called the E-Tron by Audi because it was the only electric vehicle on the market. However, the model has been renamed the Q8 E-Tron now that it is part of a larger range of electric vehicles to fit the lineup better.

As before, two body styles are available: The Q8 E-Tron or the Q8 E–Tron Sportback. The former is a coupe-like model with an open roof. The SQ8, 55, and 50 models all have all-wheel drive. However, the SQ8 has a tri-motor setup and is the fastest of the three.

  • Audi has made it clear that the Audi Q8 is its top-selling electric crossover and SUV by calling it the Q8. At first glance, the Audi Q8 Sportback E-Tron and Q8 etron can be identified as fully-electric models. The new front and rear designs, with the distinctive Singleframe mask, inverted grille and blade above the rear diffuser, are a key element of Audi’s electric design language. The Singleframe grille is a highlight of the S line edition package. It is available in body colour.
  • The Q8 etron is an Audi prestigious electric SUV model. It features a two-dimensional design with four rings on its exterior. The Singleframe projection light highlights the vehicle’s front to emphasize the family logo. The Q8 edition is also the first to sport the new model badge featuring Audi lettering on its B-pillar.

Maximum space and comfort

The Q8 E-Tron has a length of 4.915 meters and a width of 1.9337 meters. It also has a height of 1.619 metres for the Sportback and 1.533 meters for its SUV. This vehicle offers maximum space and comfort. SQ8 Sportback E-Tron and SQ8 etron are two millimetres smaller and 39 millimetres, respectively. The wheelbase of 2.928 metres allows for plenty of legroom in both the front and back seats. It holds 569 litres of storage for the SUV and 528 for the Sportback. The so-called “frunk” storage area has 62 litres.

Three types of drivetrains

There are three options for both body shapes: one with all-wheel drive and another with electric. The Audi Q8 Sportback 50 and 50 etron base models generate 250 kW and 664 Nm, respectively, in boost mode. They can travel up to 491 km (SUV) and 505 km (Sportback), according to the WLTP.

The Audi Q8 Sportback 55 E-Tron and Audi Q8 Sportback 56 e-Tron both have two motors that produce 300 kW of boost mode power and 664 Nm torque. According to the WLTP, their ranges can reach up to 582 km in the SUV and 600 km in the Sportback. Their maximum speed is 200 km/h, which is also the top speed of the Q8 50 E-Tron.

Three motors power the Audi SQ8 Sportback E-Tron and top-end Audi SQ8 Sportback E-Tron. They produce a boost power of 370 kW and 973 Nm torque.

The S models have a range of up to 494 km in the SUV, and 513 km in the Sportback. Their maximum speed is 210 km/h.

Higher battery capacity and faster-charging performance

There are two sizes of batteries available. The Q8 50 Etron’s battery has a storage capacity of 89 net Kilowatt-hours (95 Gross kWh), while the Q8 55 and SQ8 E-Tron have 106 net kWh (114 Gross kWh). The battery’s capacity has been increased by adjusting its battery management system. The Audi Q8 50E-Tron can reach a maximum charge performance of 150 kW at a high-powered charging station.

The maximum charging performance of the Q8 55 and SQ8 E-Tron increases to 170kW. In just 31 minutes, the big battery can be charged at ten to eighty per cent. This corresponds to a range of up to 420 km under ideal conditions (according to the WLTP). The Audi Q8 E-Tron can be charged at an AC charging station, wall box, or 11 kW. Audi offers AC charging speeds up to 22 kW as an option.

The Audi Q8 50E-Tron can be fully charged in nine hours and fifteen minutes under ideal conditions (22kW takes around four hours and 45 minutes using alternating current). The battery’s capacity is approximately 11 hours 30 minutes at 11kW and 6 hours at 22kW. Standard equipment in the Audi Q8 E-Tron includes the Plug & Charge function.

The vehicle will activate the charging point by authorizing itself at compatible charging stations when it inserts the charging cable. Automatic billing takes place. Audi charging will replace the existing etron Charging Service in 2023. It will be available in 2023. You can use the e-Tron route planner to find charging points along your route.

Redesigned rear-axle motor with electric torque vectoring to improve dynamics

The rear axle of the Audi Q8 E-Tron was modified to accommodate the new asynchronous motor concept. There are now 14 coils that generate the electromagnetic field instead of 12. Therefore, instead of 12 coils that generated the electromagnetic field, there are now 14. The electric motor uses less energy to produce torque if this is not required. This reduces energy consumption and increases range. Audi’s S model of the etron range featured a three-motor design for the first-ever time in large-scale production.

This was perfected for the new SQ8 E-Tron. A 124-kW electric motor powers the front axle. Two electric motors with 98 kW each power each rear wheel on the rear axle. This gives you a boost of up to 390 kW. In a matter of seconds, the drive torque can be divided between both rear electric motors and both wheels.

A balancing act between sportiness and comfort

The new Audi Q8 E-Tron standard equipment is an air-spring suspension with controlled shock absorption. The driving conditions can affect the height of the car’s body by up to 76 millimetres. The vehicle’s air-spring tuning was modified to optimize its lateral dynamics. The electronic stability control (ESC), which is part of the vehicle’s electronic stability management, will give it more manoeuvrability, especially in tight corners.

Audi Q8 Etron’s revised progressive steering handles these with greater agility. The steering system’s gear ratio was modified to respond faster to delicate steering movements. More rigid suspension bearings support the direct steering ratio. The direct transmission of steering movements to the wheels is easier and feedback from steering responses is better. All chassis control systems were adjusted but remain perfectly balanced and attuned, true to Audi DNA.

Aerodynamic performance can be further improved

The Audi Q8 E-Tron was a flagship model in aerodynamics. The result was a decrease in drag coefficient, from 0.26 to 0.24 cm for Q8 Sportback E-Tron to 0.28 to 0.27 cm for Q8 e–Tron. The underbody has wheel spoilers that help to divert airflow around the wheels. The spoilers at the front axle have been enlarged and the Audi Q8 Sportback E-Tron has spoilers at the rear wheels. The spoilers on the SQ8 Sportback E-Tron are mounted only to the rear axle. This is the first time that an Audi model has a self-seal system. This system optimizes airflow and prevents unwanted losses.

Parking with remote assistance plus

The Audi Q8 E-Tron has around 40 driver assistance system options. The Audi Q8 e-Tron has around 40 driver assistance systems. It includes five radar sensors, five cameras, and twelve ultrasonic sensors that provide environmental information, which is then processed by the central driver assistance control unit. Remote park assist plus is a new feature available for order in 2023. The Audi Q8 e-Tron can manoeuvre in tight spaces thanks to remote park assist.

The myAudi app can be used to control parking procedures. The car automatically switches off when it reaches its final spot in the parking area. It then puts on the parking brake and locks the doors. The myAudi app powers the motor, and the vehicle can manoeuvre out enough to allow easy entry.

Digital Matrix LED Headlights

Optionally, the Q8 etron can be equipped with digital Matrix LEDs. The orientation light helps to keep the driver in the middle of the road when driving on the highway. Three other features have been added to the system:

  • Enhanced traffic information
  • Lane light with direction indicator
  • Orientation light on country roads

Interiors of luxury-class design

The glass panorama roof gives the interior a lighter feel and enhances the feeling of spaciousness and airiness. Electronically, the glass elements can be opened and closed. You can also control the blackout sunshades just as easily. The two-part glass roof, which is openable, improves the indoor climate through efficient ventilation. A wind deflector integrated reduces wind noise. Audi offers four-zone automatic temperature control to the two-zone standard climate control. Comfortable seating is possible even in extreme outdoor temperatures thanks to the three-stage ventilation.

This feature is available for standard seats, whose leather has been intricately perforated. Individual contour seats, which can be adjusted to your liking, are the best interior option. They can be ordered with a massage function and have pneumatic backrests and seat adjustments. All furniture can be ordered with optional inlays made of porous wood veneers, such as grainy Ash and Sycamore, aluminium, or a carbon fibre structure for the edition S line. The new additions include light brown walnut wood and a sustainable technical product made partly from recycled PET bottles.

High-resolution touch screens and voice control

The Q8 etron, like all luxury-class Audi models, uses the MMI Touch Response Operating System. The two large, high-resolution displays with a diagonal of 10.1 inches and the bottom with an 8.6-inch diagonal replace most conventional knobs and switches. Natural voice control can activate many features besides the touch display operation. The standard Audi virtual cockpit in full HD resolution completes the digital display and operating concept of the Audi Q8 E-Tron.

Specific graphics show all aspects of electric driving, including charging performance and range. A heads-up display is available upon request. MMI Navigation Plus will be standard on the Audi Q8 e-Tron in Germany. The media centre supports high-speed data transmission standard LTE Advanced and has an integrated WiFi hotspot to allow passengers to use their mobile devices. Based on previous travel routes, the navigation system recommends destinations. Audi connects Navigation, and Infotainment packages also include car-to-X services.

Materials from recycling

Customers in Europe and America will find the Audi Q8 E-Tron certified net-carbon neutral1. Some components of the Audi Q8 E-Tron are also made from recycled materials. These materials are recycled and reduce the use of resources. This creates a closed loop that is efficient, sustainable, and long-lasting.

Audi Q8 E-Tron interior uses recycled materials as insulation, damping, and carpeting. Tech Layer is a decorative inlay that can be found above the display. It’s made partially from recycled PET bottles. The S-line equipment package includes synthetic leather and Dinamica microfiber. Dinamica comprises 45 per cent polyester fibres, recycled PET bottles, textiles used and fiber residue. Dynamic’s production is solvent-free, which is a significant improvement on previous microfiber quality.

Some safety-related components, partially consisting of mixed automotive plastic waste, are being used for the first time. These include the plastic covers for seatbelt buckles.

Audi and LyondellBasell worked together to create a process allowing chemical recycling to recycle mixed automotive plastic waste. This is part of the PlasticLoop Project. LyondellBasell implemented this joint process. Plastic components from customer vehicles are removed and separated from other metal clips. Then, they are shredded and made into pyrolysis oils through chemical recycling. The pyrolysis oil can then make new plastics using a mass-balance method.

Spring 2023: Market launch

The market launch of the Audi Q8 e-Tron/Audi Q8 Sportback e-Tron is scheduled for February 2023 in Germany and other important European markets. The model will be available on the American market by the end of April. The Audi Q8 E-Tron base price in Germany will be 74.400 euros.

Concluding thoughts + a Sportback!

The new Audi Q8 e-Tron Sportback, a very good-looking Car, wasn’t sure about the old e-Tron Sportback. It was a bit too nose heavy, and it didn’t quite look balanced. This one does it quite like that. Concluding thoughts then, well, pretty impressed, I have to say.

But prioritized increasing efficiency. As we always say here t, fully charged efficiency is the key. It’s how we will make electric cars better, lighter, smaller, and more affordable Ranger. This is not small or light or affordable, but it is more efficient than its predecessor, and it’s great to see the Legacy car makers beginning to clock onto the fact that efficiency is where it’s at that that is how you make your electric cars better, so there we go, Audi Q8 e-Tron do let us know what you think of it in the comments, please.
